In this new film review series I will be shouting about the films I love, but ones specifically related to crime, thriller and mystery genres. The other thing they will all have in common is aspects that I think will help you when writing your own stories in these genres.
Films that will be included will include dirty cops, gruesome murder, police procedure, plot twists, clever criminals, crimes scenes, spies and more.
A Review of True Romance
Murder, drug dealing and GBH.
In a nutshell:
This is what happens when Quentin Tarantino writes a love story.
Clarence is a bit of a loner, who loves Elvis and Kung Fu movies. Alabama is a call girl hired for him as a birthday treat, unbeknownst to him. On their night together, they fall in love and get married the next day. The problems start happening when he goes to get her suitcase from her pimp and winds up with millions of pounds’ worth cocaine – especially when it turns out it belonged to the Mob.
4 good reasons to watch it:
- Twists in the story – don’t get too attached to anyone!
- Some stand-out scenes, brilliantly written and acted
- Different ways to kill off characters – good for research!
- A good example of two strong themes working well together, crime and romance. Neither overshadows the other.
